I’ve mentioned before that I have a very small kitchen. I’m usually quite good at keeping track of what I have and only buying what I need. But I still manage to accumulate random bits of things that don’t really get used.
On January I went back to work after being a stay at home mum while my kids were little. They are now both at school and my husband and I both work. We also live quite far from all those places, so commuting takes up a large chunk of our day. I started relying more and more on processed products and readymade meals. Not what I want for my family and not what we actually enjoy eating.
Things have got better since I started this blog (that was one of the reasons I did), but the kitchen is still in a bit of a state. Particularly the fridge that needs a good deep clean and the freezer that needs to be defrosted.
So on Wednesday (2 days ago) I said to myself enough is enough and use as much as possible of what I have in the house: fridge, freezer and pantry.
The state of them is quite bad. And much to my shame and after a lot of thinking I decided to post what they look like now. I think it’s important to be real in the blogging world.
The fridge: everything vegan except for some mature cheddar for my daughter.
The pantry: everything vegan except for 3 cans of sardines, Milo chocolate powder, instant noodles and some scones all for my husband.
The need to tidy up is self-evident!
I usually do this twice per year just before the end of summer and right after new year. It’s my kitchen detox. And boy do I need a detox right now!
I won’t post everything we’ve eaten but I’ll do a quick roundup once the week is over next Wednesday.
